Charitable status

The institute operates on a non-profit basis. Its assets and any surplus are devoted exclusively to its statutory purpose, and no part of them may be distributed to members or to the members of the Executive Committee.

Application pending. An application for recognition as a tax-exempt public-benefit organisation is currently under review by the tax administration of the Canton of Fribourg. Until that decision is issued, the institute makes no representation that donations are tax-deductible. We will publish the outcome on this page.

Governance

The general meeting of members is the supreme governing body of the association: it adopts and amends the articles of association, elects the Executive Committee and the auditors, and reviews and approves the annual report and annual accounts. Between general meetings the association is administered by an Executive Committee comprising a President, a Treasurer and a Secretary, elected by the general meeting and serving on a voluntary, unpaid basis. The Executive Committee is accountable for the association’s finances and legal obligations.

Executive direction is held by the Scientific Director, responsible for the research programme, and the Executive Director, responsible for operations, funding and partnerships. Both report to the Executive Committee. The Executive Director post is currently vacant and carried ad interim by the Scientific Director. See People & governance for current office holders.

The articles of association are available to members and, on request, to prospective funders and partners.
